Victoria BC became the Pacific headquarters of the Hudson's Bay Company in 1843 and is located on Vancouver Island. Its vitality later merited Victoria becoming the capital of British Columbia beating out New Westminster and not relinquishing the honour to the now huge metropolis of Vancouver.
Victoria BC is now considered by many travellers to be the Jewel of the Pacific certainly of the North West because of its pleasant harbour and small town atmosphere with a twist of Britain.
